Science chapter 1
Nutrition in Plants
NCERT solutions and other question answer
Question 1:
Why do organisms take food?
Answer All organisms need food to get energy for growth and of maintenance of their body
Question 2:
Distinguish between a parasite and a saprotroph?
Answer
Parasite
Organisms which depend on other living organisms for their food are called Parasite
Example cuscuta, lice etc
Saprotroph
Organisms which depend on dead and decaying matter for their food are called saprotroph.
Example Mushroom ,bacteria etc
Question 3
How would you test the presence of starch in the leaves?
Answer
Take two potted plants, keep one plant in dark and other in sun light for 3-4 days. Take 1-I leaf from both the plants. Put 2-3 drops of iodine solution on both the leaves. The colour of leaf kept in dark does not change but the colour of leaf kept in sunlight changes into blue-black colour. This colour chang shows the presence of starch in leaves
Question 4
Give a brief description of the proces of synthesis of food in green plant
Answer
Plants in the presence of sunlight. and chlorophyll use carbon dioxide and water to make their food. This proces is called photosynthesis. It can be represented by an equation
carbondioxide + water +Sunlight---------- Carbohydrates+Chlorophyll +oxygen
Questions 5
Show that plants the ultimate soure of food?
Answer
Plants(Grass)←Herbivores(Cow/goat)←Carnivores (Lion, Tiger)
Question 6:
Why do farmers grows many fruits and vegetable crop inside large green houses? What are the advantages of the farmers?
Answer
Farmers grow many fruits and vegetables crops inside large green houses because green houses protect the plants from climatic condition (like floods) and give suitable temperature for growth of plants.
Advantages
The farmers are able to grow several times more products
Their crops are protected from birds and animals
Short question answer
Question 1:
What are stomata?
Answer
Tiny pores present on the leaf through which plants absorb carbon dioxide from the air-
Questions 2: write down the chemical equation of photosynthesis in plants.
Answer
Carbon Dioxide + water +sunlight+chlorophyll--- glucose + oxygen
Question 3: why are plants called producers?
Answer
Green plants are called producers because the food prepared by plants is eaten by herbivore such as goat and deer.
Question 9. What are the constituents of carbohydrates
Answer
carbon, Hydrogen and oxygen
Short Question Answer
Question 1: what is Nutrition? Explain.
Answer Nutrition is the process by which an organisms obtain nutrients and use them for growth, development and maintenance of its body. There are mainly two modes of Nutrition
1. Autotrophic
2. Heterotrophic
Question 2 What is Photosynthesis? Explain.
Answer Done in NCERT I No.4
Question 3. Differentiate between autotrophy and Hetrotroph Give two Example
Answer
Autotroph• Organisms that can make their own food in the presence of sunlight, carbon- dioxide, water and Chlorophyll are called Autotroph
For example plants, algae and some bacteria etc
Heterotroph
organisms that can not make their own food but depend on plants and animal for their food are called heterotroph
Example human beings birds ,animal etc
Question 4
Human prepare their food in kitchen. This means humans are autotrophs Do you agree why or why not
Answer
Humans pre pare their food in the kitchen but they in directly depend on plants and other animali their food so they for are not autotroph
Question 5:
Khushi went on a vacation with her family when she came back after 10 days the piece of bread in her refrigerator had green white thread like growth on it what was it how do you think it got there
Answer :It was fungus fungus can survive in cold temperature even in refrigerator or in freezer also. Fungus due to the moisture present in the bread fungus can also grow if the refrigerator is not clean.
Extra long question answer
Question 1:
Explain the symbiotic nutrition in plants with example?
Answer: In symbiotic nutrition two different organisms leave together and mutually benefited. They help each other for feeding, protection and reproduction. For example lichen is a mutual combination of algae and fungus. The fungus absorb water from the soil and supply to algae. IT return the algae make food and supply to the fungus. This type of Nutrition is called symbiotic nutrition.
